Henry Fical

    

Henry Fical was born Nov 1841 in the Town of Ephratah.  He was the son of Abram (Abraham) Fical and Nancy Goodemote. He was baptised on 2 Jan 1842 at the Reformed Dutch Church, Fort Plain, Minden Twp, Montgomery County. In 1877 Henry married Adelia Sheffield.

Henry died 31 Dec 1939, age 98 years.  He is buried in Fical Cemetery, Lassellsville.

C. Adelia Sheffield Fical, wife of, 1833----.  Caroline Adelia Sheffield was born 1853, not 1833 as seen in Fical Cemetery records.  She was the daughter of George Sheffield and Caroline E. Higbie.  George Sheffield and Caroline Higbie were married 30 March 1843.

Henry was a Corporal in the 97th Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He was from Lassellsville, wounded at Bull Run, and discharged 21 Dec 1872. (History of Montgomery and Fulton Counties by F. W. Beers & Co.)  He enlisted as a Corporal and was discharged as a Corporal. (www.itd.nps.gov)

The 97th Regiment, New York Infantry, was organized at Boonville, NY under the command of Colonel Charles Wheelock.  He was mustered in 18 Feb 1862 and on 12 Mar 1862 left Boonville with 928 men.  

Companies D and F were recruited from Salisbury, NY (www.dmna.state.ny.us -  New York State Military Museum and Veterans Research Center).  The first battle was at Cedar Mountain, VA on 9 Aug 1862. The battle of Bull Run was on 30 Aug 1862.  Mustered out 18 July 1865 (www.itd.nps.gov).

Listed in Civil War Veterans from Fulton County, 97th Regiment, Company F: 
Henry Fical, 4th Corporal, from Lassellsville, wounded at Bull Run, discharged 21 Dec 1872.

According to the 1883 Pensions Fulton County, list of Pensioners, Henry was on the roll as of 1 Jan 1883: 
Fical, wd.  rt side and arm, pay rate $8.00, from Lassellsville.

1869-1870 Town of Ephratah:  
Fikle (sic), Henry is listed as a farmer with Abram Fikle in Lassellsville.

1900 census-Town of Ephratah:  
Henry Fical, age 59, born Nov 1841, farmer, married 23 years; 
Adelia, wife, age 47, born May 1853; 
Clinton Fical, son, age 19, born Oct 1880, farm laborer; 
Carrie, daughter, age 18, born May 1882, glove maker.

1920 census-Town of Ephratah: 
Henry Fical, age 78, no employment; 
Adelia, age 66; 
Carrie Michael, age 37, daughter, widow, school teacher.

Henry Fical was the brother of Elizabeth Fical who married Capt. John Lassell of Lassellsville.
