Images of Fulton County

We received this email from one researcher and thought it was a great idea.  What developed from his message is this page.  This page is designed as a place not only to have fun and also a place to share/exchange but hopefully as a result; it will be informative and helpful.  What was once thought as lost in the past may just come alive here.  As they say, a picture is worth 1,000 words!

If you have an old photo or postcard  and are willing to share your treasure(s) of the past, send a message and put "PHOTO"  in the subject line.

  Alan Robinson writes:

"It would be nice to have photo forum where people could request and post descriptions (or better yet, GIF thumbnails) of old photos that others may be interested in.  For example, I really would like to see a photo of West Green Street (1908-1938) because my great-grandfather's paper box factory was at 100 West Green and it has since been torn down.  If someone took a picture of a neighboring house, a view up Market Street, or a photo of the Colonial Cemetery (facing south), I could get a glimpse of the old factory.  Also, if anyone has old photos of the Johnstown Cemetery, someone may be able to locate a stone that has since disappeared or has been destroyed.  For example, I can't find where my g-g-g-g grandfather Daniel Robinson was buried.  His wife Susan is buried in the Johnstown Cemetery near her son & daughter-in-law who died thirty years later.  Daniel may be next to her, but there is no stone.  I recently took a photo of an aerial photograph in the Johnstown Library.  The photo was focused on the Kargs Brothers plant, but a good portion of the cemetery was visible.  Upon closer observation, I was dismayed to find that Susan's grave was blocked by a tree in the picture."
